I've seen "free" wifi hotspots password protected.

That said, unless you have wi-fi of your own, it does make sense to turn the wi-fi off on the phone.

I think Ed said his router does offer wifi, (and perhaps he's using the home wifi to his phone?) But he prefers a wired connection to his PC. If his XP machine supports wifi, he'd be good to go, but he has suspicions about using wifi.

My router used to have a DSL Modem on its WAN output.
I wish to use a cat5 Bluetooth device in its place to let the router use data that is on the phone even tho I know there will be an upcharge for my doing that .

Thanks for the idea to use Aftershock app.
    Will look into it.

So.. your only source of internet right now is at the

If so, I don't think there is an cat5 adaptor for the phone to
feed ethernet to your devices. Usually the only possibility
with eth/cat5 adaptors that connect to smartphones is when you
want to provide internet TO the phone.

Your easiest solution (as has been mentioned before) is to
simply get a wifi dongle for your pc, and enable mobile hotspot
    on your phone.

If you see that again, post the link. I'd like to see what you

If your phone supports Bluetooth, you can probably use that to
provide your signal to your pc. Your pc just needs to support
bluetooth too. If you are afraid of using wifi at the phone,
you can probably select Bluetooth-tethering when you enable the
    phone's mobile hotspot feature.

iPhones support USB tethering, it looks like some Android phones support this as well.

    Tether by USB cable:

Important: Mac computers can't tether with Android by USB.

    - Connect your phone to the other device with a USB cable. A notification shows at the top of the screen.
    - On your phone, swipe down from the top of the screen.
    - Touch and hold Hotspot.
    - Turn on USB tethering.

Using this method, there is no wifi or bluetooth signals and your phone is being charged at the same time.

The cellphone has Internet, and Bluetooth, I am wanting to put a Bluetooth device on my cat5 router WAN output.
Then use data through the cellphone while I use the computer keyboard & software that I have been familiar with.
Appreciate the help, I guess I haven't written clear enough what I have been thinking of wanting to do.
Home computers (like everyone else in this thread are using) are lots easier to use in my way of thinking.

I have lost two replies on two different days because I goofed up and tapped outside of the writing window this phone has.
As You seen I am usually long winded while writing posts.

It is very frustrating when this phone switches from composing a post to show something else because I goofed up hitting the screen somewhere else than where I suppose to be tapping.
Still learning how to use it.

Your easiest solution (as has been mentioned before) is to
simply get a wifi dongle for your pc, and enable mobile hotspot
    on your phone.
I may finally have to do that.

This might not be the ethernet-based type of connection that

If you already have the USB cable for charging, you can get

Another thought. If you can switch your router to repeater/

I was thinking I could substitute a BT device where the old DSL modem connected to the WAN output and then use Internet thru the cellphone as I did when using the DSL modem.
This model phone has BT 4.0 on it.
I seen that v 5.0 is downward compatible to older versions of BT.
So any device I get that made for v4 or v5 would be fine for me.
It just bugs me that I can't find the device I saw earlier when I started looking.
History ought to show it for me, I have used history settings on the Computer(s) as in Firefox and maybe Thunderbird lots of times

I even occasionally make a file of all that's in the C: and the D: partition(s) so later when I am wondering where I Saved a file, I can open the Text File I most recently made and then use CTRL f to Find where I stuck that file, so I can open it.
I make many many many subdirectories, some I look into regularly, many others I don't where they are OR what's in them, BUT MY TEXT FILE DOES.

A Tree of my C:\ drive(partition) would show some places have 4 or more nested subdirectories in them.
Go ahead and laugh, it's My computer Not Yours.

    Hello Ed!

I was thinking I could substitute a BT device where the
old DSL modem connected to the WAN output and then use
Internet thru the cellphone as I did when using the DSL
    modem.

I have never heard of anyone connecting an external BT adaptor
to a router port, and expect BT connectivity that way. I can't
    find such a device either.

Just get a BT adaptor for the pc, and establish a direct
connection to the phone that way. But, maybe special drivers
would be needed for XP support. Do your research. Good luck.

I even occasionally make a file of all that's in the C:
and the D: partition(s) so later when I am wondering where
I Saved a file, I can open the Text File I most recently
made and then use CTRL f to Find where I stuck that file,
so I can open it. I make many many many subdirectories,
some I look into regularly, many others I don't where they
are OR what's in them, BUT MY TEXT FILE DOES.

I just use Effective File Search on my XP pc when the windows
    search fails me:

What's bugging me is I saw a BT adapter with a rj-45 socket on one end and an antenna on the other end once
Apparently I didn't bookmark the page.

    Thanks.

I looked at the link, no way to get it on my XP PC unless I visit a neighbor and use their PC.

Scinet echo on this BBS has been archived, I looked at your reply to Nelgin on Apr 04 20:57:00 2022 .
You had a link in your post to
    https://kolico.ca/ftn/scinet

After I looked at it and then returned to the BBS I saw the note in the post "BTW.. You can drag the points around."
Went back to that page and moved some of the points.
    THANKS!
    That is an amusing page.

I couldn't post a reply while in the thread on scinet echo and thought to mention it the next msg you sent to me in whatever echo I found it in.

    Real Nice graphic.
    Ed
