• archive.org = lots of films

From Ogg@CAPCITY2 to All on Saturday, February 24, 2024 18:46:00
I have been somewhat familiar with archive.org in the past, but
by some seredipity/chance/fluke or whatever, I happened to look
for classic hollywood films and discovered that there are quite
lot available for download! I was particularily impressed with
the colourized versions of some familiar classics. I liked
that they even have a category for film noir (a favourite
genre). Overall, the archive.org seems better and more
organized since the last time I dropped by several years ago.

The new series "Monsieur Spade" is making me want to go back and watch
some of the old black and white noir films, especially The Big Sleep
    and the Maltese Falcon.

There was a poll on Reddit about favorite Noir films. I had to throw in
    "Body Heat" as neo-noir.

What archive.org is great at is storing stuff that is very hard to find from official sources.

Stuff like Rock Odyssey, for example, which never got official theatrical releases and was aired once or twice in Europe. For years, it only survived in the tapes of home viewers who had bothered to record the TV broadcast when emitted. Now archive.org ensuers it is available.

Thanks, it is a old movie that I remember seeing 60 years ago.
I think the movie was from the 1930 era.
Don't think YT would have it.
What is popular with Me isn't currently popular.

Many years ago I saw a clip from the movie "The Milkman" starring Jimmy Durante and Donald O'Conner.
I mentioned it in FIDO Memories echo .
Another person later said it wasn't on YT when he looked.
I went back to the Bookmark and saw a note that Universal asked YT to remove it.

Youtube is definitely not what I would use to look for specific movies (there are other sites for that), but that Reddit has links to interesting ones that get posted from time to time. Many of them do not stay on there for long.
It's just something for when you're curious and might want "random".

I recently noticed that TV-14 movies sometimes got really RANK.
So I go to IMDB to see what the Movie Rating for the show is.
I see lots of those TV-14 shows are Rated R at IMDB.

I have a Amateur Radio License, in Part 97 Rules and Regulations foul language is forbidden.
But Public Television has begun allowing "Common" Foul Language in shows instead of muteing it.
They mute some but not all of it.
They even blur the picture in some scenes sometimes when the action gets too rank.
I wonder when the FCC will allow TV Stations or Networks to broadcast worse language over the air.

I have a Amateur Radio License, in Part 97 Rules and Regulations foul language is forbidden.

But like any rule, it does seem to get broken a lot. Check out stations in CA to get plenty of examples.

They even blur the picture in some scenes sometimes when the action gets too rank.

"Rank" is rather subjective. If PBS feels there's objectional material, specify it before it starts, like other stations do. Let the viewer decide.

I wonder when the FCC will allow TV Stations or Networks to broadcast worse

They can already say "shit" and "fuck" now. Haven't really noticed anything getting muted/cut in quite some time.

But like any rule, it does seem to get broken a lot. Check out stations in CA to get plenty of examples.

"Rank" is rather subjective. If PBS feels there's objectional material, specify it before it starts, like other stations do. Let the viewer decide.

PBS, I helped someone connect a Closed Caption box to their TV set years ago. The set was tuned to a local Educational station showing some people walking in the forest.
One person stumbled and said a expletive and the CC box displayed the word uttered.

MRO, It must be the same problem I have with my car.
There is a Loose Nut behind the Steering Wheel.

Since getting this phone I've only added two apps to it
    NoScript and The Online Bible.

I'm still a Amateur at using this Android phone.
I would be too if I selected an iPhone to use.
My only experience with a MacIntosh Computer was with the original and learning to eject a 3.5 Floppy Disc It wanted me to send it to the Trash.
That was strange to my way of thinking.

I forgot that Firefox and DuckDuckGo are called apps.
Those two were the first things I asked the Store employee to put on the Android phone when I was there to get a cellphone from them.

I know Android OS is a Google product but wanted NoScript to limit Google and Amazon products to the Default setting when I visited a page.
Only Temporarily Allow those when the page REALLY need it to let me see or do what the page is for.

dont know what you mean by default setting and temporarily allow. I think it's on your phone but doing nothing.

if you want full control over that google stuff you need to root your phone and make changes.

if you want a decent safe browser i suggest you get brave browser on your android phone.

I will take a look at Brave browser and try it a bit.

The Default I wrote about is shown in a drop-down box I see on a site after tapping the 3 vertical dots and tapping Extensions and then selecting the NoScript option from the list of extensions.

While logged on right now, the list only has synchro.net .
I have the synchro.net site marked as Trusted, therefore NoScript lets everything synchro.net sends me show up on this device.

Sites that use Amazons CloudFront or Googles Double click or any of Their other (I call them Services) , I can leave any of them at NoScripts Default setting. If the page needs some JavaScript option Turned On Instead of having NoScript Save the Service I can tap Temp. Allow so NoScript will let what the Service wants to send to me pass on through during this connection to the webpage until I close my browser.

Then the next time the site is visited by me those services will not send all they have to me because the new session won't retain the Temporary setting, the Default setting will be in NoScripts list of Services.

I say Services because I don't know the proper term to call them.

Still Learning, that's why I use a BBS.
