Just testing out my newly setup WFWG in Virtual PC. I highly recommend it or DOS for anyone wanting a truly authentic BBS experience.
I used to use vmware a long time ago, used Virtual PC before Microsoft
took over, now have Microsoft's virtual PC and its o.k. for somethings.... Honestly though for the majority of the programs, dosbox is the best.... I have dosbox and defend re-loaded (front-end for dosbox) that really rocks... The nice thing about dosbox is it comes installed with free-dos and makes it easy to just turn a directory into a drive and run older dos programs... Actually, dosbox has some cool features that make it better than the original days of dos.... Eg. I can emulate a cga, ega, vga, herculees, tandy, etc...
I can also run software or the adlib, sound blaster 16, gravis ultra, and a disney sound source. (all at the same time too!) where as Virtual PC emulates a vga w/ soundblaster 16.... I use Virtual PC mainly for testing
the bootable cd-roms, dosbox I use for developing DOS software and testing versions of dos, boot disk, etc...
