    Paul,
Where in Ct. Groton ? I'm close to fartford

I was in Torrington. Not sure how far that is from Groton... It's a beautiful area though, all those towns nestled in the woods. Looked like a post card. My best friend moved up there after retiring from the Air Force. He's trying to talk me into moving up that way, even offered me a decent job so
it could happen in a few years, after my daughter graduates from high school.

We could swap stories all day and in the end it all comes out the
same. I suppose everyone from Valley Forge to the Frozen Chosien
bunch would feel the same way. The only golden parachute we got
was one that was burning on the way down.

I've come to the conclusion that it's suppposed to be that way. I fibnd myself bitching about the same things the old "brown shoes" were bitching about
when I first came in. You figure at 38, I'm now the old guard... Time for me to go and let some of the young kids become bitter, crusty old SrNCOs. :)

I saw him by accident a few years later, we went and had a couple
of beers and swapped stories. I asked him about the great years he
had in the Navy...seems he got assigned to a gunboat and spent his
entire tour getting the living hell shot out of them patroling the
Delta. I laughed till I was sick.

Had a feeling that this story would end up on a gunboat. :) Sounds like your friend has some karma issues to contend with. If he'd have joined the AF,
he'd have ended up a door gunner on a rescue chopper. :)

I did wonder, after living in the real world it's hard to go back to a place where you have to turn you watch back 150 years when crossing the border.

It's a shame really... I love the area, it's the people that can suck. It gets better as the ratio of "Utah Mormons" to normal people evens out but there's still countless little irritations. Like not being able to have to beers on your table at the same time and other equaly inane laws...

Yeah, I know. I tried going back home to Idaho after the Army. It didn't work
either. That's why I had to silently chuckle these last few years while you yearned to get back there. I knew what was coming and there wasn't one damn thing I could tell you that you were going to believe till you got there. What
you put up with unthinking as a kid drives you insane once you've seen how the rest of the world operates.

yep, I've been back often enough that I thought I had an idea. My mistake... Looks like I'll be here at least another 6 years (until my youngest
graduates). My best friend retired 2 years ago and has offered me a job in CT.
Working as a tech rep for a company that writes NT network management utils. It's good money and available anytime I'm ready. It looks better the more I think about it...

I haven't given a dam about baseball since the Dodgers moved from Brooklyn, as anybody who's seen my autographed picture of Duke Snyder on the wall would know.
